Tour – Jewish history of Elvas

Discover Alentejo offers you a view from the perspective of the Jews and New Christians who have lived in Elvas since ancient times. From the castle we will observe the landscape traveled by the people of Jerusalem  used to reach Alentejo, coexisting initialy with Muslims and Christians. You will have the opportunity to walk through the Jewish quaters, streets, offices and houses, including Garcia de Orta, the probable Synagogue and the prison. Persecutions, hatreds, conviviality, tolerance, conversion and curiosities of the nation of the Mosaic Law will be present along the way.
